How to Measure for Framing
Ordering a custom frame can be technical.
To help us build your frame correctly, we need to know exactly what the numbers you provide represent.
IMPORTANT:
In the framing world, the "Size" of a frame refers to the size of the glass/internal opening, not the outer edge of the wood.
We work based on two types of instructions. Please specify which one you are providing:

Method 1
Art Only
Use this if your art is going into the frame without a cardboard border (mount/mat), or if you already have a mount and just need a frame to fit it.
WHAT WE NEED:
The exact Width & Height of the art you are hoping to frame OR the outer width and height of the mount or mat you are going to put in the frame.
We can then inform you of the overall size of the frame.
IMPORTANT: we cannot work from the overall frame size you are hoping for as this is dictated by the glass size + frame width
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- To ensure a perfect fit, we build our frames from the inside out. We require the Art Size to begin construction. Since each frame profile has a different width, the total outer dimension is dictated by the combination of your art and the moulding you select.
- Specify the units to avoid misunderstandings. We work in mm, cm and inches

Method 2
Mount or Mat Board
Use this if you want a mount (the decorative border) around your art.
WHAT WE NEED:
Art Size: The width and height of your artwork. We will then make the mount opening 4-6mm smaller to ensure the art is held in place
GOOD TO KNOW:
We can make our mount boards to any width you require. Please discuss this with us directly
